The Ronald McDonald House Visits Scuba Santa!

Children and families staying at the Ronald McDonald House of Southern New Jersey had a blast visiting Scuba Santa on Monday!

The children—many of whom might not be able to go home for Christmas this year while they seek treatment at local area hospitals for serious illnesses and other health disabilities—arrived before the aquarium opened for an exclusive meet and greet with Scuba Santa, before watching him dive into the aquarium’s 760,000-gallon Ocean Realm.

After the meet and greet, the children and their families had the opportunity to explore Adventure Aquarium’s eight new underwater holiday light exhibits and visit both the World’s Tallest Underwater Christmas Tree and the World’s Smallest Underwater Christmas Tree. They also had the opportunity to dance and play in the wonder of the aquarium’s indoor snow flurries!

We were thrilled to be able to offer a unique Christmas Underwater experience for these special families—who’ve spent the year battling the challenges, emotions and disruptions that come with childhood diseases—and are so glad they could join us to celebrate and enjoy the magic of Christmas.

We can’t wait to have more families join us again for Christmas Underwater next year!

Scuba Santa’s Grand Entrance – Friday, November 30

As we heard from Gill last week, Scuba Santa will be making his official 2012 Christmas Celebration debut on Friday, November 30.

And leave it to Scuba Santa to do it in spectacularly grand style.  Not satisfied to simply arrive via sleigh, Santa wants to make a real “splash” this year. From the moment he arrives at in the heart of Philadelphia from an express train from the North Pole, to a thrilling boat ride across the river to the Camden Waterfront, to his eventual arrival at Adventure Aquarium on top of a big, red fire engine – greeted by hoards of screaming fans no less! – Scuba Santa wants to be absolutely certain that everyone knows he has arrived for the 2012 holiday season!

The Schedule

Scuba Santa’s day of festivities kick off when he arrives via the 7:30 am train into 30th Street Station in Philadelphia. From there, he will make his way around the City for a bit of sightseeing and errands, including stops at Love Park, Reading Terminal Market (to buy – among other things – broccoli for Bob the Loggerhead Sea Turtle!) and the Independence Visitor Center.

Scuba Santa’s official escort from the City of Philadelphia to the Camden Waterfront and Adventure Aquarium? None other than the Camden Fire Department, who will pick up Scuba Santa from Penn’s Landing at 10:15 am to transport him on their fire boat – complete with water cannons that shoot water 20 feet (!) into the air; and then on land…a big, red fire engine to take him from the Marina to the Aquarium entrance!

Meanwhile, at Adventure Aquarium, a welcoming committee including Camden Mayor Dana Redd, kiddos and Annual Passholders will be ready to greet Scuba Santa with homemade signs and cheers. The event culminates with Santa heading inside the Aquarium where he will inject a bit of Christmas “magic” into the day, making it snow – INSIDE! –  to kick off Gill’s Holiday Dance Party. Followed by Scuba Santa’s very first dive at Adventure Aquarium for the 2012 season!
