Rain? What rain? Overcast conditions didn’t stop juvenile penguin “Pumpkin” from taking his first swim at Adventure Aquarium!

Adventure Aquarium’s biologists took advantage of the (bit) warmer than normal temps to get 4-month old Pumpkin out for his first swim lesson.

In zoos and aquariums, trainers often need to introduce penguins to the art of swimming in their new homes, guiding them in the water and helping them learn how to get in and out of their exhibits.

During each lesson, a biologist stays on standby in the water with Pumpkin, observing him closely.

Pumpkin did really well on his first swim! He was even taking some dives underwater.
