Adventure Aquarium’s Penguin Chick Progress Update

Adventure Aquarium’s baby African Penguin chick is getting bigger by the day. Pretty much right before our very eyes! The chick is currently 26 days old, weighing over 1000 grams – roughly over 2.2 pounds.

Adventure Aquarium’s baby African Penguin chick is getting bigger by the day. Pretty much right before our very eyes! The chick is currently 26 days old, weighing over 1000 grams – roughly over 2.2 pounds.

Adventure Aquarium's penguin chick is able to stand completely upright (getting it’s ‘penguin’ on!) and can move around quickly.It is able to stand completely upright (getting its ‘penguin’ on!) and can move around quickly. Remember when just a week ago it was spending the majority of time on its tummy?! They grow up so fast…

Adventure Aquarium's baby penguin chick has graduated to solid food and is now eating small fish all on its own!

In other news, the chick has graduated to solid food and is now eating small fish all on its own! Yum? Yum.  Like any other baby bird, penguin chicks consume large amounts of food compared to their body weight. As a result and as you can imagine – they grow rather rapidly. This instinct results in the chick becoming self-sufficient at a young age, thereby relieving mom and dad of the burden of constant feedings.
