Just in time for 2013: Our very own ‘Baby New Year’ – arriving in the form of a 3-month old Loggerhead Sea Turtle hatchling, now on exhibit. The little hatchling was rescued in North Carolina, and came to Adventure
Aquarium from the North Carolina Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores, who – in partnership with the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission (WRC) – aims to rescue, rehabilitate and release as many sea turtles as possible. Often, some hatchlings are too weak or disoriented to make it to the ocean, so they spend time at aquariums receiving special attention and preparing for their big journey into the ocean.
This hatchling will be exhibited and cared for by Adventure Aquarium staff until it is strong enough to be tagged with a satellite-tracking device and released into the ocean, giving biologists the opportunity to better understand sea turtle migratory patterns and nesting behaviors.
