We’ve been celebrating sharks all summer long at Adventure Aquarium during Shark Fest!
But with the recent Great White and other shark sightings off the coasts of New England and California, questions and concerns have been raised from the thousands of swimmers who flock to local beaches every day.
The shark-sighting news became local last week when on Thursday, a fishing party caught a 2-foot juvenile hammerhead shark off the coast of New Jersey, near Avalon. In reporting the story, Fox 29 Philadelphia reached out to Adventure Aquarium – the only aquarium in the country with Great Hammerheads on exhibit – for our shark expertise and feedback on this rare catch.
Watch the video and read the Fox piece for special insight from Marine Biologist Matt Ferroni on why this hammerhead sighting is cool, but may not be as unusual as you think.
